　Masami Kamigaito was born in 1 965 in Nagoya, Japan. He received his B.S. (1 988), M.S. (1 990), and Ph.D. (1 993) degrees in polymer chemistry from Kyoto University under the direction of Professor Toshinobu Higashimura. After conducting postdoctoral research with Professor Mitsuo Sawamoto, he joined the faculty of Kyoto University in 1 995, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1 999.

　In 2003, he moved to Nagoya University, and was promoted to Professor in 2004. During 1 997-1 998, he was a visiting scientist at Stanford University working under Professor Robert M. Waymouth. He is the recipient of the 1 999 Award for the Encouragement of Research in Polymer Science of the Society of Polymer Science, Japan and the 2001

　Arthur K. Doolittle Award of the ACS PMSE Division. His research interests include metal-catalyzed controlled radical and cationic polymerization and precision polymer synthesis.

　 He got Ph.D. degree in 1 993 with his doctoral thesis entitled "Design of Initiating Systems and Nature of the Growing Species in Living Cationic Polymerization".
